Staging a pantomime involves a lot of hard work on stage and behind the scenes, but is very rewarding and great fun. More than 100 people are involved in Pantoloons each year, and we would be really happy if you join us. No experience of panto is required; in fact, no experience of the theatre is needed at all. Scroll down for further details of on-stage and off-stage roles.
If you'd like to be part of the Pantoloons team, then please get in touch with us by email at pantochair@gmail.com
Panto has roles on stage for men and women. There are principal (the main roles) and chorus roles. Each panto normally has 10-15 principal roles, these are roles where you'll have to learn your lines and act in the story. The principals will interact with the audience and ad-lib when required. No prior experience is needed; we're looking for enthusiasm, talent and commitment. We hold auditions for the principal roles, so please get in touch with us if you're interested to find out more.
The chorus is also an essential part of panto. This group of people will dance and sing, making the stage come alive with colour, sound and movement. If you're not successful in your audition for one of the principle roles we often will consider you for a part in the chorus.
We do accept students from year 3 onwards for roles on stage, however we do request that a parent or guardian also be involved with the production, either on or off stage. We also require parents and students to understand the commitment required - a great deal of free time is needed for rehearsals as well as performances.
All our pantos are big productions: they typically have a cast of 50, over 100 costumes, and 5 different stage sets to be built, painted and then moved on and off stage. More than 100 props, 15 different musical pieces to be played by our band, 50 sound effects to produced during the performance, make-up to be applied to every member of the cast, dances to be taught. There is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make our pantos a success. If you'd like to join our off-stage heroes, please get in touch by email.
Our 2024 production of 'Romy O and Rap Unzel' is now over. The cast and crew are taking a well-earned break before starting work on our next production, to be staged in January 2025. But we always welcome new members to join our team: if you'd like to join us in an on-stage or off-stage role, or would like further information, please contact us by email at pantochair@gmail.com.
Please note that Pantoloons membership is restricted to current and former BSB students, parents and members of staff.
